About Marianna FL
Marianna, FL is situated on the banks of the Chipola River in Florida’s Panhandle. As the County Seat of Jackson County, Marianna is a small town of about 6,200 people (as of the 2000 census) rich in Southern hospitality. Nothing in today’s warmth and charm belies its significant historical relevance.
Marianna was the site of the deepest penetration of the Union Army during the Civil War. The intense Battle of Marianna left some scars on the landscape which are still evident today. The area where this battle took place now lies within the downtown district. Winding your way through the streets, you will find evidences of the fierce fighting in and around some of the historic buildings that remain today.

Things to do in Marianna include Florida Caverns State Park with plenty of outdoor activities as well as cave tours open to the public. Three Rivers State Park, which is formed where the Chattahoochee and Flint Rivers come together to form Lake Seminole, offers excellent hiking, boating, fishing, and camping. The Torreya State Park overlooks the Apalachicola River. This park is named for a rare tree that only grows along the bluffs of the Apalachicola River. Visitors to Torreya can take a guided tour of the Gregory House, a fully furnished plantation home that was built in 1849. Blue Springs Recreational Area is a haven for cave diving enthusiasts as well as swimmers and is a first magnitude spring which supplies water to the 202 acre reservoir known as Merritt's Millpond.

Marianna has five public schools and Chipola College which offers dual enrollment classes for high school students and grants associate degrees as well as a few Bachelor’s degrees.
